Measure the worktop carefully, including room above and around the machine for filling, cleaning and ventilation. In smaller kitchens in Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin or apartment homes in Malta and Cyprus, access to the water tank and bean container can matter as much as the machine’s footprint. A freestanding model does not require built-in furniture, but it still needs a stable, dry work surface and a nearby suitable socket.

Melitta fully automatic machines use an integrated grinder to prepare coffee from whole beans. This removes the need for a separate grinder and can make the daily routine simpler. Models with automatic milk preparation are designed for drinks such as cappuccino and latte-style specialities.
